September 12, 2023 | Leg 7, Day 11.
Arrived at Eureka, California.
The beauty of Humboldt County hid itself from Hōkūleʻa and her escort vessel, Kolea, in the early morning. According to Wioyt tribe chairman, Ted Hernandez, this area was known as the “Lost Coast” for its hills and bay are often covered by the fog.
But as we got near to our dock, the fog lifted and the quaint town of Eureka, California came alive. This was another unexpected stop for our crew, who has been bound to the will of the weather, which in truth has made this 7th leg of the Moananuiākea voyage a wonderful journey of exploration into the unknown.
