Moananuiākea Voyage – Leg 1: Juneau to Yakutat
Bio
Mimi is an Interior Designer based in Seattle and the daughter of the late Byron Mallott, who was a PVS board member and a Tlingit clan leader who led the effort to donate spruce logs for the hulls of the voyaging canoe Hawaiʻiloa. Mimi first sailed on Hōkūleʻa when she visited Oʻahu for a homecoming from Tahiti.
Mimi is family of the canoe and her presence on Hōkūleʻa perpetuates Hawaiʻi’s deep relationship with Southeast Alaska. To her, Hōkūleʻa "symbolizes the unity of cultures" and she hopes that voyaging continues to raise "awareness of the importance of the environment and the health of our ocean." With the Moananuiākea Voyage, Mimi looks forward to "our ʻohana coming together”, getting to know different cultures, and sharing the "knowledge it brings and spreads around the world of the ocean."
Like some of her siblings, Mimi craves fish when she is out at sea; while back on land she misses the "serenity of being at sea."
