Neah Bay.
The day’s journey from Port Townsend to Neah Bay was mostly overcast. We were faced with brisk winds, cold temperatures, and light rains. By mid-afternoon, many of us were wearing all our layers. We cruised down the Salish Sea passing green enchanted forests and hills shrouded in mists along the coastline. And sea fog started to fill in behind us.
We arrived at Neah Bay shortly after sunset, and several members of the Makah tribe were at the dock ready to greet us. After an exchange of oli and pule between the crew and the tribal community we were taken to a community hall where dinner was hosted for us. We shared mele and mo’olelo as usual, and the community did likewise. After dinner, we retired early to our cabins that were blessed with hot showers. Needless to say, we rested well for the night, and we’re now ready to embark on the next long haul of our journey down the west coast. Mahalo nui to the Makah Tribe of Neah Bay for the hospitality and aloha, and to Sui-Lan for the coordination and support. Continue following us on Hokulea.com and social media.
