Moananuiākea Voyage – Leg 16 | Hōkūleʻa : Aotearoa to Fiji

Zeb is a carpenter from the Cook Islands, but his first time sailing on a wa’a kaulua was off Maui on the voyaging canoe Moʻokiha o Pi’ilani. Zeb is honored at the prospect of sailing on Hōkūleʻa during the Moananuiākea Voyage, explaining that to him, Hōkūleʻa “means revitalization of who we are as people of the Moana.”
As for the voyage itself, as well as voyaging in general, Zeb says he hopes “to inspire and encourage our young tamariki, keiki, to be leaders and navigators of the future.”
Zeb says what he misses most about his everyday life at home when out at sea, is the “quiet and simple complexities of life.” And when on land, what he craves most about being out at sea is “my peace.”
