Moananuiākea Voyage – Leg 3: Juneau to Ketchikan
Bio
It was toward the beginning of the Mālama Honua Worldwide Voyage that Dino, a professional surfer and fisherman, first had a chance to sail on a waʻa kaulua for crew training on Maui. He was fortunate to sail with two of the best - original ʻ76 crew member Snake Ah Hee and Hall of Fame Waterman Archie Kalepa.
Dino sailed on the 2022 Kealaikahiki Voyage and now on Moananuiākea. He says is looking forward to the “support from my ʻOhana and sailing with awesome people exploring new places and cultures!” With every voyage, Dino enjoys the “adventures with the ʻohana formed aboard the waʻa” and he hopes to inspire his son to voyage as well. He also hopes to teach children what he learns and to continue to keep the fire burning in his son and his friends who he says “are passionate about the importance of their culture!”
Ironically, when out at sea, Dino misses fishing. And what he says he misses most about voyaging when back at home is “looking out into the night sky at our heading.”
