Moananuiākea Voyage – Leg 16 | Hikianalia: Aotearoa to Fiji
Bio
Dr. Kyle Chong first sailed on a waʻa kaulua during the Mālama Honua Worldwide voyage from Rapa Nui to Tahiti in 2017. He has served as a crew member and on-board doctor, and continues on the Moananuiākea Voyage. He says he appreciates being a part of “connecting people and practices across the Pacific.”
“Culture and Community” are at the core of what Hōkūleʻa means to him and says the hope is that continuing to voyage ensures the “preservation of the culture.”
When Dr. Chong is at sea, he says he misses his family. And what he misses most about being at sea when he is back in his everyday life is “communication.”
