Bio

Hōkūle’a means “family and legacy” for Noland, who does more than carry the name of his grandfather Buffalo Keaulana - legendary Hōkūleʻa voyager and lifeguard. Noland too is a lifeguard and a voyager, having first sailed on a waʻa kaulua as a teenager with Hōkūleʻa and E ʻAla at Pokaʻi Bay in 2006.

He sailed in 2022 on the Kealaikahiki voyage and now for Moananuiākea, doing his part to perpetuate the legacy of Hōkūle’a, in the name of those like his grandfather who took the risk and ultimately revived a tradition lost for centuries. “Through voyaging,” Noland says, “I would like to see the younger generation rise up to take up the kuleana of the generation before ours.”

When at sea, he misses his family and craves, not just any cold drink, but the singular Mountain Dew.
