Hauʻoli Lā Hānau Hikianalia!

Hauʻoli Lā Hānau Hikianalia!

Hōkūleʻa’s sister canoe Hikianalia was “born” in Aotearoa 14 years ago, on September 15, 2009. She is named after the companion star to Hōkūleʻa, together rising in the eastern sky.

Hikianalia has sailed across Hawaiʻi, to Papahānaumokuākea, Polynesia and California. She is outfitted with engines, which allow her to serve as Hōkūleʻa’s safety escort vessel, and she serves as a platform for training voyagers and navigators, as a communications hub for storytelling, and as a floating classroom for STEM and other education initiatives that ultimately help to Mālama Honua. Over the last two years sheʻs gone through major drydock work thanks to the hands of many volunteers, and is now newly refurbished and lashed together like her sister. Hikianalia is better than ever and ready to serve for many more years to come.

MAHALO NUI and Happy Birthday Hikianalia!
