Hōkūleʻa Departs Ko ʻOlina and Returns to Pōkaʻi Bay
After a week of education and community tours, Hōkūleʻa departed Ko ʻOlina Marina yesterday for a return visit to Waiʻanae’s Pōkaʻi Bay. The voyaging canoe arrived in the afternoon and will be moored in the Bay while crew participate in Hoʻākea Mauka to Makai, an event offering the public hands-on learning experiences that perpetuate foundational values and perspectives of navigation sponsored by the Hawaiʻi Department of Education and various waʻa (canoe) and mālama ʻāina (land and ocean) organizations.
On Saturday morning, Hōkūleʻa will depart Pōkaʻī Bay for Hawaiʻi Kai Towne Center at Maunalua Bay, the final Oʻahu stop on the Pae ʻĀina Statewide Sail.

After Maunalua Bay, the final stop on the statewide tour will be Hilo in May before Hōkūleʻa departs for French Polynesia to resume the Moananuiākea Circumnavigation of the Pacific.
The Polynesian Voyaging Society (PVS) is preparing to celebrate the 50th birthday of Hōkūleʻa on March 8, 2025. This milestone marks a half-century of cultural revival, environmental advocacy, and a renewed connection to the earth and ocean.
