Hōkūleʻa Visits Windward Oʻahu on Pae ʻĀina Statewide Sail
Traditional voyaging canoe Hōkūleʻa is spending the last part of the year at stops along Koʻolaupoko on the Windward side of Oʻahu. Currently docked at Mōkapu at Marine Corps Base Hawaiʻi in Kāneʻohe for community and school engagements, Hōkūleʻa’s next stops will be at Heʻeia Kea Pier (Dec. 7-16) followed by Kailua (Dec. 16-18) and finally Waimānalo (Dec. 18-20). These engagements are part of the Pae ʻĀina Statewide Voyage. (All dates and stops are weather-permitting.)
Hōkūleʻa has been docked at Mōkapu for the past two weeks, during which hundreds of students, teachers, and community members have been participating in canoe tours and activities with the crew. Prior to Mōkapu, Hōkūleʻa and her crew visited Lāʻie and Kahana.
Weather permitting, the canoe will depart Mōkapu tomorrow and sail to Waimea Bay in honor of the opening of the The Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational In Memory of Eddie Aikau. Following the ceremony, Hōkūleʻa will continue her statewide sail and head to Heʻeia Kea Pier, Kāneʻohe for an approximately 10-day engagement.
